Weather Start Cloudy and 22C  4pm Sun and 30C  7pm 22C
The Good highlights of the day were a) visiting Ulysses S Grant's home in Galena ILand touring the very beautiful town and b) having some one stop to see if I was OK when I was stopped to take a picture of the Welcome to Illinois sign. He then offered to take my picture by the sign. Nice guy biker too so we talked bike talk for w while. :-)
Bad stuff: the gear change lever bar that I tap up/down to change gears snapped off leaving me with only the connector shaft to change gears with. Good thin was that I took the bike to an autobody shop and the guy there drilled a hole in the shaft and put a bolt in so I could change gears. I have also arranged via e-mail with the BMW Dealer in St Louis to fix my bike of Friday.
Other bad stuff: came around a blind corner a little distracted and saw that I was heading for a 6-8" round rock. I hit it, the front suspension held with only a one inch twitch in the handle bars. I was so happy with the suspension then I looked down and my GPS was gone! Well you know what people are without their phones or Ipads, that's me with my GPS. I was shattered, i'd have to use paper maps! So I decided to turn around and go looking for that rock. Found the rock and not too soon as a truck passed and there was no rock any more. After hunting in the sweltering sun I found my GPS. The plastic cover had a few deep grooves in it as it flew from my bike at 55mph and hit the road. I turned the GPS on and it worked!!! Thanks to Garmin and their rugged (and expensive) 'motorcycle' GPS.

Wow, that must have been scary! Glad things worked in your favour and the GPS is still working!

I am glad you and the bike are okay and we don't have to send a rescue party.
Once again a great trip.
