Die Warped Die!
Trip Start May 31, 2006
20Trip End ??? ??, 2006
Jessica came back for about a week and left in New York where Kara came on to help us until the second last day. I want to go to the party backstage after the last show (for us) because it's hosted by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and because I never get to hang out after the show. However that may not happen because Arron and I have to drive to Long Beach , CA. We're still waiting on confirmation from Keidis, but Arron will be taking a week off and then with confirmation, I'll be heading to RHCP.
Now some stupid stories. Underoath, one of the bands on tour left. There are a lot of rumors floating around the internet which are pretty funny
Saad and Melody from the Darfur Action Coalition (www.dacm.org) came down to the Chicago show to sell shirts. They sold about $350 worth I think. It was cool to see some familiar faces from home.
We also worked through the heat wave that hit the East Coast last week. In Fitchburg, Mass, we were at an airport which also turned into a dust storm. Kids were dropping like flies. Some of them literally right in front of our tables. On top of that Jessica and I didn't have volunteers so everything was on us (Arron works the Oxfam table and I do ONE). I'm also responsible for calling the next days' volunteers to confirm and then in the morning I pick them up at the gates. Well I called this one guy at Fitchburg for the next show in Jersey to confirm. He talked to me on the phone for about 10 minutes and he seemed really sketch. When he arrived he asked if they got backstage at all and I clearly and firmly said no since it compromises our position on tour if we allowed that. Technically the volunteers do have access, but we don't let them know that. When I was training this guy he basically said he didn't need it and to just give him a clipboard and he just kind of flirts with people to get them to sign
On the same day we had this other kid who I thought could have been drunk at 11am. He clearly wasn't into the campaign, but I couldn't tell if he was drunk or just stupid. He was swearing at his girlfriend when I went out to pick them up and he did some other stupid stuff. When we trained him and sent him out he did exactly what we told him not to do and went to each merch table and tried to get people to sign. Heckling the whole tour crew is sure to piss people off. Remember all of this is on top of having one of the headlining bands do a signing in our tent during a heat wave. We were thrilled.
Anyway, the rest of my stories will probably be boring to you. I'm glad this tour is almost over. It's tiring. I'll try to post tons of pics.
