I've made it to Seacliff. Seacliff probably has more horses than people, however it's a great place on the coast. I arrived last night after driving up through Dunedin. I'm WWOOFing (Willing Workers On Organic Farms) at the Asylum Lodge. The place is awesome, besides the fact that 37 people died here. They don't advertise that sort of thing, but I saw "asylum" and had to research.

On arrival you have to let yourself into a gate and close the gate so the horses don't get out. The office is actually just a part of the building I'm staying in. This building seems to have had some major work done on it and it's quite impressive. The other buildings are great too. Rusty, falling apart, filled with old junk. Of course I've explored some of them, but not all.

This morning I woke up to a rooster crowing outside my window - loudly. I eventually got up and fed the chickens (you know, just like in Milwaukee). Then I weeded until about 2 or 3 in the afternoon. One of the horses just stood next to me and ate while I was doing some of the weeding. It was pretty cool except for the fact that they crap everywhere. Around three a bunch of people headed down to the beach for surfing. I grabbed a wet suit, but I didn't end up going in the water. I ended up walking along the beach and exploring. I ran into a small sea lion and on the way back I saw two girls walking their horses into the surf. It was really funny to watch these little horses in the water. Then one started running out of the water and the girl that was holding it fell face down in the water. The horse took off running down the beach and the girl after it. Later they were just rolling around in the sand a lot. How often does that happen on Bradford Beach?

The hostel itself is loaded with old, possibly ancient cars. There are about fifty classic cars that the owner has bought. I found these in some of the buildings I walked through. I know some of you reading this would love to rummage through those cars.

Now if only I had a camera that worked. :( Hopefully I'll get it back before I leave The Asylum, otherwise I'll have to settle with taking video.

(edit: Just when I finished writing this, one of the horses put its head through the kitchen window to get some food)
