1/27/07- Arriving early in the afternoon, from Rome, into Naples. Spending the remaining light of the day touring around Castle Saint Elmo. Saint Elmo's offers an enchanting view of Naples as well as of the Mediterranean and surrounding mountains. Afterwards we finished the night off by walking around the bustling streets, enjoying a variety of street performers and smorgasbord of shops and restaurants.

1/28/07- We woke early to travel to Pompeii (a city/civilization destroyed 2000 years ago by a volcano) to explore its well preserved ruins. These ruins were buried until the 1600's. Exploration and excavation did not begin until 1748, it is still an ongoing process. Housing temples of the gods, and amphitheaters were mighty gladiators fought and died it became apparent that Pompeii was an extremely sophisticated society.

1/29/07- We boarded an overnight boat enroute to Palmero Sicily. Arriving about 6:30 am. The group unpacked and immediately we departed to search out the architectural wonders of the city. Seeing buildings Such as: The Palatine Chapel & Treasury, Cattedrale, and Chiesa di S. Matteo Apostolo along with a variety of public spaces. We found that Palmero is a beautiful city surrounded by mountains and the sea; and good people always willing to help.

I love all of the new sketches and pictures. I see that you brought your green vest! You look so cute in your braids. I can't wait to see more pictures. I'm glad that you are finally enjoying a little warmer weather too. I really liked the fighting picture. Funny. Miss you! Love, Olivia (big sis)
