I (we) are staying at the home of Melanie & Bob - Jess' parents.  The story is involved and the synopsis is really just a simple lesson in kindness.  I love this home.  Marcia would agree that this is what my home would look like if I would only "stay one place!"  Melanie does not have a lawn ... her garden is all of the landscaping and - did I say this already? - I love it!  Anyway, onto a couple of tales ...

As Reyanne & Renee were still in town, their friends, Nadia & Jess, took us out.  On Saturday nite, we went to a little place on Commercial Drive called The End Cafe.  There was a small Cuban band playing and the lead vocalist had a voice as powerful as Celia Cruz!  It was crazy how rich this woman's voice was for such a young person.  Latin dancing was the theme of the night and we had a good time.  I learnt that there are FOUR places that one can go latin dancing every week!  Totally excited about checking out those opportunities.

Sunday ... There is a folk festival going on at Jericho Beach (west of the ultra-hip neighbourhood of Kitsilano or "Kits" for short).  We don't have tickets, but we're going mainly for the outdoor market vendors that dot along the  walkway between the festival and the actual beach.  It was nice ... I had some fun rummaging through a pile of silk clothes that were a bargain at $5 each -  scored 2 cool wrap skirts and a saree top that will match my coffee-brown chiffon saree.  We did sit on the beach for a spell & my pictures depict the local "scenery".

Leaving that beach, we headed for Deep Cove in North Van (which means that we have to cross a bridge).  It was a long bus ride, but sooo worth the effort.  We went kayaking for about 2 hours in that area.  Beautiful!  I will share photos when I get them from Reyanne as her camera was used to capture a few shots.
