After an hour's train ride, we arrived in the capital city of Rabat. It is quite beautiful here. We walked through a small medina & ended in the Kasbah des Oudaias where we enjoyed mint tea & a delicious assortment of freshly baked cookies on the Platforme du Semaphore - which is a viewpoint of the harbour & is surrounded by the Andalusian gardens.
After tea, a few of us girls set off on foot to the Mausoleum of King Mohammed V (his son, Mohammed VI, is the current monarch). The walk is pleasant & the Mausoleum is impressive. The gardens & a series of pillars lead to "a splendid building with zellij mosaics, stucco work, & a beautiful carved wooden ceiling. Both the present king's father & grandfather are buried here." While I did not enter the mausoleum - too many tourists - I really enjoyed the grounds & my photos reflect this area.
