All grown up, the Little Owl went on the exploration of Cochin all on her own. What a brave little owl! She met a wonderful driver of auto-rickshaw, and his English speaking cousin as well. Not much space in the auto-rickshaw though... And the driving was rather hair-raising too... All in all, a thoroughly exhilarating experience, but would love to do it all over again.
The Little Owl went on the ferry and enjoyed a three and a half hour of picturesque sailing through peninsulas and islands of this southern Indian state called Kerala. Being one of the finest natural harbors in the world, the city of Cochin was the center of the spice trade for centuries. Sailing along the narrow passageways at the water's edge, the Little Owl saw the Chinese Fishing Nets, St. Francis Church where, for a little while, Vasco da Gama was buried, the medieval-style Mattancherry Palace (Dutch Palace), and the ginger production facilities. Totally different than metropolitan Mumbai, yet charming in its provincial laid-back attitude...
