Alright, I know -- It's not a diner! But we didn't go to a diner this weekend. It was soooo nice out! And Lisa's Pizza is of interest because of its classic set-up. They serve the basics, all at reasonable prices (for instance, a big bucket -- and I mean BUCKET -- of fresh-cut fries costs $5. That's it!). French fries, onion rings, and of course their delicious fresh pizza. The storefront is gorgeous and simple -- red and white ceramic tile with a long chrome counter sporting the obligatory squirt bottle of vinegar and deli shaker of salt, with a window to order fries etc at, and another window to order pizza at. Just make sure you ask for some ketchup packets and napkins before you go! All spotless shiny-clean, always busy. I think I'm going to buy one of their t-shirts next time I go down, and I'll try to get a picture of the place, because it's just a sweet design, and you all need to see it (whoever you are!).

How to get there: go to Old Orchard Beach, off Route 1 in Scarborough. Lisa's Pizza is right on the main drag, heading toward the beach and the Pier, next to Palace Playland.

Also of interest, there is a nifty candy shop at the top of the main drag, painted in fresh pastel candy colors, that we'd never noticed before. We wandered up, tantalized by the oh-so-cheezy-and-wonderful paint scheme, and were very pleased to find a GREAT sweetshop for our troubles. Lots of salt water taffy, which the owner encourages you to select a free sample from (one per customer, please!), and caramel corn (also up for a taste-test). Not only do they have traditional chocolates, fudge, popcorns, bin candy, and taffy, but also they have a fantastic selection of cool candies like Ferrara Pan candies (Lemonheads, Orangeheads, Cherryheads, etc), Gold Nuggets gum in a little cloth sack like Ol' Miner Forty-Niner would've slung over his shoulder, FIZZ candy, caramel swirl pops that I think are called Slap Shots, with white, pink, and classic tawny caramel in a squared-off spiral of FLAVOR, those little licorice stem pipes, HUMUNGOUS jawbreakers, and the list goes on and on. Check them out!
