27 Sept- A relaxing day catching up on emails and work and then working out plans for the rest of the week. Thursday is Matthew's birthday party  and Friday to Hampton Court & visit friends in Walton-on-Thames.

28 Sept - Playing with Matt and then dinner at home for Gareth and Stephanie's friends visiting from Israel.

29 Sept - A surprisingly late start. I remember when I was a kid and it was my birthday I'd be first up. We got Matt a scooter and he was not up when I surfaced at 0830 and so we presented it to him around 0900. Thrilled seeing it, I then tried to put it together...surprisingly easy but I thought the wheels in front should turn using the upright bar. Anyway they turn shifting your weight so he's now got it sussed. That together with the Lego helicopter made him a happy 4 year-old. I'm sure he'll begin to focus on his many other gifts throughout the day.

Tonight's dinner celebrates Matt's birthday and Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) and there's about 15 of us. I'll don my kippa and be attentive at the pre-dinner 5 minutes of rites and then settle in to enjoy myself. Knowing most of the guests makes it easy.

30 Sept - The end of Q3 for 2011. Last night's dinner was marvellous and fitting outcome for all the work Stephanie so masterly contributed to its success. We sat down after all guests had left and shared a bottle of champagne and reminisced. Matt had a great birthday celebration and lots of gifts including a set of drums...ohhhh!

Anyway, we 're off to Hampton Court today and will have lunch with my old and dear friend Ramesh Shamdasani at his club, the Lensbury Club in Surrey. Stephanie and Ramesh's two sons were neighbors and best friends in HK in the 1970s.

An exhausting day in the end.

1 Oct - A quiet day watching Rugby recordings and then meeting an old choir friend for a drink before dinner with my daughter Stephanie. A lovely day but for the challenge of packing for tomorrow's flight.

2 Oct - Lunch with the family then home to basically head off for that awfully long flight to Bangkok via Dubai and the anxiety of wondering if we have excess luggage and whether I packed my prized purchases safely.

Here ends this travel log with the hope you enjoyed some of it and that I won't undertake such a thing again.....
