15 Sept- Arrived in Zurich after another driving experience in Switzerland. Amazing people are the Swiss drivers and the state of the roads begs the check of Switzerland to charge me CHF 40 for the right to use the roads. In Zurich it's absurdly confusing to a visitor and the speed limits are a constant problem (being so low). I have on board navigation and GPS and can only wonder how i used ot manage in the past unless simply being younger made so much difference.

We dropped into MB to arrange a service for the car tomorrow (ouch.... why is Zurich 3 time London for the same service?) We then tried to drive to the Club for tennis only to discover we were lost because we assumed Zurich but instead the street was in Forch, another village outside Zurich.

Great tennis and then dinner at a vogue Asian restaurant with our hosts the Pinsker ( both ex HK and friends of many many years). In fact Stephanie celebrated her 18th birthday ( last month her 38th) at their home in Zurich. Served by a Philippino who obviously has become very Swiss...sorry we do not give top up hot water tea but you can buy another pot for CHF6.50.

Oh well...I'm sure tomorrow will be better if my knees and hips last another game. We'll dine at the club and that should be better and cheaper.

16 Sept- What abusy day when you get up at 1100. Collected the car at 1230 and then headed off for tennis with the plan to stop somewhere for a coffee and snack. Finally ate in the club house after arriving at 1500 and after getting suitably lost again.

Erwin arrived with his partner Isabella and we played 2 sets on one court and the had to pay the tie-break shortened set on another court. We agreed a first-to-11 short 3rd set as we were all tired, especially me. We lost 9/11 after I double faulted at 9 all. Anyway it was great fun and Erwin recognised he could not have won without my help. Isabella's husband Gerry arrived for the 3rd set and we all set down to a first drink before showering and organising dinner on the BBQ. Erwin collected the food and Catherine form home and then a flurry of activity, while I showered resulted in a very tasty dinner, lots of wine and very jovial conversation. Erwin, the only Swiss, demostrated his wonderful sense of humour ( yes, a Swiss- German with a sense of humor) with frequent jokes aimed at Germans (Isabella), Dutch (Gerry), Australians (me) and Chinese ( Catherine & Susan). Susan and Catherine chatted all evening and we all devoured the meal with great enthusiasm and appreciation. When all was done (and me very well done) we parted and drove back to our hotel around mid-night. What a great time. Thanks Erwin and Catherine.
