So we decided to head back north, up to Newcastle and then to Durham. Newcastle upon Tyne is quite a lovely city. It resides on the Tyne River, hence the name, has wonderful bridges crossing the river, and some nice architecture. We strolled around the city for several hours.
Further up the Tyne River, is the town of Durham. An ancient town, it has a cathedral as old as the York Minster. Sitting upon a cliff overlooking the Tyne, it is a beautiful cathedral; its probably more impressive than the York Minster. It was built in 1093, and they still hold service in it.
