Sundsvall has finally become a home to me and I can see myself being very happy during my next 3 months here. I have been in sweden already for a month!!! The town is a perfect size for me and the location of my apartment is just right, just outside of town but plenty close within 15 minute walk to anywhere. School is in high gear, (well kind of) and I am busy playing basketball and planning events for the students here. I feel like I am just right back at Green River again. I've spent a day at the beach here playing volleyball with new friends , I have hiked to the top of the north mountain. Sundsvall lies between two mountains and faces the baltic sea with a river flowing right down the middle of town. I have walked down and spent an afternoon on the boardwalk, as well as walked through town to find my favorite dragon statue. (the basketball one of course).
I have a german friend here who has become my favorite person. Her name is Jana and she is one of the most cheerful people i have met. Jana loves her movies and she is allergic to lactose, so it's always an adventure with her food. Then there is Esse, after seeing him for 5 minutes you can have enough laughter to last you 3 days. He is a very genuine person, originally from Peru he grew up in Stockholm. On days when you think there is no one happy here, he changes your mind right away. I've tried salsa dancing once since I have been here, and he was a professional! I learned the moves pretty quick.
There are moments in my day when I miss home and I think about my family ad friends, and i become sad for about 2 seconds then I realize how amazing it is for me to be here right now! thank god for technology or my mother would be going crazy with out me being able to reach her. I am planning a trip to London right now with Jana and a trip to Paris with my room mate Parri.
It's already getting cold here and they said snow could be falling in the next few weeks! i am sooooo scared to actually live in the snow and have to walk around in it. Then the fact that there will be only 5 hours of daylight is pretty hard to picture, so it will be fun to see how that lifestyle is. I can understand how people can get so depressed here easily when it gets sooo dark and sooooo cold. Well i am going to shine my little light here for as long as possible until i come back home to seattle for christmas!
