Well I'm back, and this time coming to you from beautiful Portland, Oregon. Truth be told, I have yet to see much of the city having only just arrived at the public library to mooch off some free wireless internet!

We'll be staying with one of Jen's friends for 2 or 3 days, but she's not off of work yet so here we sit...waiting patiently!

The drive down was pretty dismal. The Pacific-Northwest weather followed us with it's gloomy skies and chilly air all the way to Portland. Unlike all of the driving up until this point, the interstate (I-5) was crowded with cars and trucks and was not scenic at all. Then, BAM! Jen and I were startled by the sound of something hitting my windshield...not that it hadn't happened before on this trip. But this time it sounded different, louder and more intense. So intense that it took a nice piece of glass out of my windshield, causing spiderweb cracks to form around where the rock had hit. I will not write down in this journal the next words that came out of my mouth, all I knew then was I was down $400 to replace a windshield. How can I know for certain it will be so expensive? This is the 2nd one to be broken in less than a year. Sigh.

On the plus side Oregon is the only other state in the Union where you are not allowed to pump your own gas, besides NJ. Finally I can enjoy a gas station from the only place a gas station should be enjoyed from....my car.

Oh, we stopped the at the Museum of Flight on our way out of Seattle. It's about 15 minutes south of the hotel/hostel we stayed in and located right on Boeing Field. GREAT museum. Some quality pictures are posted here for your entertainment. The exhibits and atmosphere were wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone, aviation enthusiast or not.

Thats all for now. I'll update this later if we head out into Portland this evening for whatever reason. Hope NJ has some nicer weather than Oregon right now!

UPDATE: We have arrived at our destination which is a friend of Jen's who is attending medical school out here in Portland. We are in a giant house with 20 other med students (don't we feel out of place being simple teachers!). Tomorrow we plan to drive east a bit to some scenic areas that have been recommended to us. Will update you then!

P.S. - have to bring my car in for service tomorrow at 7am (we've driven 3800 miles thus far and it's time for a safety inspection) and then on Wed I have an 8am appt to fix my windshield. So much for sleeping in!
