The area known as Cinque Terre is made up of five small villages along the coast of the Mediterranean: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso.

The villages are connected by a train, but to really get a feel for how breathtaking this area is, you need to take in the views by foot. It takes five hours to hike from the northern village of Monterosso to the furthest village south, Riomaggiore.

Five hours of non-stop hiking was not for me though. The trails were harder than I anticipated, so when I arrived in a village, I found some food and relaxed by the water.

Did I mention that the food was amazing and the spots for swimming were absolutely gorgeous?

Life was pretty rough in Cinque Terre.

I only made it to three of five villages, but I don't mind. It gives me more to explore next time I visit and there will definitely be a next time!
