Where I stayed
Yes, that's right. Rocks.
For a girl who is always complaining about the sand at the beach, you'd think a sandless beach would be a dream come true, but believe it or not, it can be quite difficult to get comfy while lying on a pile of rocks. Even better is trying to walk in and out of the water with the waves crashing down and the rocks at your feet moving every which way while you stumble around trying to maintain your balance. (Photographic evidence of our struggles to stay on two feet included below)
We had the rocky beaches by day and spent our nights rocking out at everyone's favorite bar, Wayne's. We heard from several people that Wayne's was the place to go. We met a friend for dinner and he insisted on getting there before midnight because he was worried we wouldn't get in. We got there a few minutes before 12 and were happy to see there wasn't a line. I was excited to get in and see what all the fuss was about.
My reaction upon walking in: Um what?!
There should have been a sign that read Welcome Back to the United States.
I understand that a bar is a bar. The bar we had drinks had in Paris was nothing special and could have been in any Chicago neighborhood.
But this bar was meant to look like a U.S./U.K. bar.... who knew those were the same place, but okay I get it. The decor included license plates from all different states alongside posters of the Beatles and other paraphernalia deemed "English." The live band played all the hits from back home while sweaty people crammed together on the dance floor
I wanted to leave immediately after arriving. I did not come 4,000 miles to go to [insert any Chicago/Michigan bar with a dance floor]. But we stayed for a drink, which turned into three (four) and ended up having a great time.

I should also mention that we were in Nice during The Assumption of Mary, a national holiday in France. We joined thousands of locals and tourists for fireworks down at the beach. Even with the rocks digging into our butts, I think it was one of the best fireworks displays I have seen and it felt really special to be included in the celebration. One of my favorite experiences so far!
