Today we arrived in Jerusalem. On our way back over the border/checkpoint between Ramallah (Palestinian territory) and Israel proper we had to get our passports out again to show the armed soldiers. This time they decided to check all of our luggage. We had about 15 large suitcases and they were in no hurry. We, however, had an appointment at the Hand in Hand school at 9 (30 minutes). Luckily our bus driver asked if we could go through a different checkpoint and they let us go.
The other checkpoint we drove through with no problem.
The Hand in Hand school was amazing. It is only school with Israelis and Arabs going to classes together. Imagine that. All other schools are segregated. Yes, because remember Israel is not a secular state. It is a Jewish state. So Arab Muslim parents send their students to Arab Muslim schools. The students at Hand in Hand were shocked that I don't teach you all Religion. They were VERY excited to learn about Edmondo and I hope they will post soon!

After lunch, we wandered the Old City Jerusalem. We walked at the top of the walls of the city that has been so contested over the years. Remember the ottomans, the crusaders, more recently the Jordanian army and the Israeli army. Everyone wants this city. But doesn't it belong to us all?

More on Jerusalem tomorrow. Marsalem! (Goodbye in Arabic)

Jews have laid claim to Jerusalem since King David made it his capital in the 100s BC; Christians claim it as the site of many important events in the Bible, including the cleansing of the 2nd temple and the crucifixion; Muslims claim it as the site of Muhammad's ascension.
