Capote

I studied this with Mary to do our Literary Salons so I thought I would do a cultural opportunity on him.  I found him very interesting considering everything that he did.  I was amazed to learn that at the age of eleven he started writing.  What eleven year old wants to just sit down and start writing?  But then I have to remember the time frame that he did this.  Back in those days there wasn't much else to do besides do chores and help your family.  I feel that because of him doing this at that age made him that more good at writing and have that much more experience.  The part that I found the most interesting is when he went to follow the Clutter family murders.  He was so intrigued by this that he made several trips and helped out in their investigation.  I am in awe when at the end I found out that he was trying to help one of the murderers and also got him an attorney.  I mean, every one deserves the right to counsel no matter what crime they have committed but for an author to go and visit him in prison and ask all kinds of questions to find out what kind of chance he has with getting him off is just amazing.  I also like that Capote was very open about his sexuality.  Most people, especially back in that time, would hide it from the world but he did not.  Which is the way I think it should be, we should be able to be our own person no matter what our sexuality is.  He was a very strong willed person and I look up to him for everthing he has done.
