Dear friends,

Coleen and I are doing well in Haiti. Today we had a big test for our training (we are in school learning to speak Kreyol). I had to talk all in Kreyol and they taped me so they can give me a grade. It is really hot here. Today it is about 95 degrees. The sun makes everything feel hotter.

We went to the market the other day. IT is NOT like a Wegmans. It is outside and everyone brings what they want to sell there. It is like the one in the book called Tap Tap. I bought mangoes for 8 gouds (thats Hatian money. Its about 12 cents). You get to bargain with the merchants. I said, Konbyen kob? (How much does it cost). She said, Vent goud (20 gouds). Then I said, "Wap touyem. Li trop che" (your killing me, thats too much). M ba ou sank goud (I'll give you 5 gouds). She said, "Li pa bon pou mwen."
I said, "huit goud." (8 gouds) And she said "Okay" Now you can practice buying at a haitian market too!

Next week we are going on a long field trip to the North of Haiti. I will be planting trees, and learning about farming. Coleen will be working with kids who don't have enough food and are very sick and hungry.

We would love letters from all of you.

Good luck in School!

Peace,
Mr. Riccione
