Where I stayed
Sankatha Guest House
After an 8 hour drive through the most impressive scenery I've seen in India and a 30 something hour train ride we arrived in Varanasi. The whole trip took a little over 43 hours. I'm glad the travel agent who told us 50-55 hours was wrong.
I did some video blogging along the way, you can see it here:

Varanasi is an interesting and filthy place. We found some fellow travelers from Australia who we had hung out with a bit in Mumbai and Udaipur at the start of the trip. We found a cool place to eat on the rooftop at Shanti Guesthouse which is loaded full of backpacking westerners.
We've been soaking up the culture here. Yesterday we started out with a Tabla drum lesson. I think I was the worst student our teacher had ever seen, except maybe Dave. We really have absolutely no rhythm at all. After that disappointment, we had an hour Ayruvedic massage, then an hour of Reki. The Reki was interesting, but the massage was possibly the worst I've ever had. I was so bored and un-relaxed. The only good bit what when the crusty old dude was massaging my face while resting his stubbly chin on my head. After that we did a 1.5hour yoga class. That was pretty cool I guess.
On our third and final day here we cruised along the Ganges at 6am to see the burning Ghats. This is where they do the public cremations. It's amazing to see the locals swimming and drinking the same water they shit, piss, wash and dump dead bodies in. In the afternoon I found an old man swing maces. He was kind enough to teach me how it done. Great training for grip strength.
As I sit here typing this blog, the smoke from the burning cow shit outside fills up our little cyber cafe stinging my eyes. "Good for eyes" says the boy running the cafe.
We now head up to the Nepal boarder by night bus. We should be in Kathmandu in a day or two.
