One of my day trips out from Prishtina was to the Gadime caves, an easy bus ride and short walk about 30km to the south of the city. I really enjoyed the caves, though not so much for the caves themselves, which lacked the speleological wonder of Postojna caves in Slovenia, but more for the curiosity and amusement that everyone else seemed to derive from my presence, and the endearingly crappy nature of the tour.

Even waiting for the generator to start up so that we might have some illumination within the caves, I caused some speculation amongst the others on the tour. I obviously don't look like a local. After much muttering amongst themselves, one finally asked me (in reasonable english) 'What are you doing here?'. It was a question I asked myself when the tour began. Everyone seemed to move at their own pace, so the put-upon guide ended up giving every part of the tour four times - once in Albanian for the fastest people, another timne in Albanian for the slower people, once in German for a pair of Swiss soldiers on the tour and finally once in broken english, just for me. Although his english wasn't great, I got the general gist of what he was saying from the German tour most times, and just smiled and nodded when I couldn't understand either.

Lacking any real sights as such, the tour coinsisted mainly of the guide pointing out various rock formations that had a vague resemblance to other things. If you squinted a bit. And had a very active imagination. It was wonderfully rubbish. I enjoyed myself immensely.
