On my way to Vienna, I decided to stop off for a couple of hours in Sopron, right on the austrian border and one of the few places in hungary the Turks never reached. Easily comparable to Eger, but unfortunately without the wine, Sopron is an attractive, baroque town. Sounds familiar. Most of the buildings are from slightly later in 18th century, and the whole place is much smaller and (in my opinion) prettier than Eger. And it has a fire tower! A very small town, though - I had allowed myself 3 hours to walk around the town, and had covered the majority of what there was to see within 2, which left me with a slow walk back to the train station and onto the next country!
