After having been in Hungary on and off for a bit over a week now, I decided it might be best if I actually see something of the country aside from Budapest. My first venture out of the city was a trip to Visegrad.

A pleasant enough town, what actually brought me out here was the prospect of some short hikes amid the Visegrad hills, part of the Duna Ipoly national park. Despite not managing the hike I had intended (due to being too eager and jumping off the bus about 10 miutes early), I still spent a good few hours following trails above the town; good to be out of town for a change, and actually have to deal with a few hills! The views over the sharp loop in the course of the Danube well rewarded the effort. Im also pleased to report that despite the temperature not reaching above zero, my new thermal clothing kept me warm throughout. Even better, my new boots (about which I had been having some doubts as to how waterproof they might be) stayed dry even when traipsing through over a foot of snow!
Slept well that night :)
