I don't really have very much to say about Cluj, I'm afraid. A pleasant place to spend a day, certainly, some beautiful architecture and with a very young and vibrant feel to the town - no doubt because of the 12 universities here, meaning 1 in 4 residents is a student - that I haven't experienced elsewhere in Romania, yet still I was incredibly bored. Two reasons for this: I knew nothing about the place, and there was no-one else in my hostel.

The hostel itself has to be potentially one of the best I've stayed in, if I was to only consider the design of building itself (it had the most amazing bathrooms, better than my bathroom at home!), yet with no-one there it lacked a little in the way of atmosphere. Also, the staff were possibly the most unhelpful and uninterested I have ever met. The reception consisted of "There's your bed. When are you leaving?". I don't think that as a paying guest, I've ever been made to feel like an inconvenience before.

The best thing to come of my time in Cluj was that I finally got around to replacing my shoes. Though loath to let them go, the past three weeks of trudging around in snow hasn't done wonders for them, and the holes were becoming just a little too prominent for comfort. So I am now the proud owner of a pair of big, fur-lined, toasty warm boots. Hooray for cheap markets!
