You know it's not been a great day when the highlight is getting an ice cream. Even if it is a really, really good one. After the beautiful scenery of the Coromandel, the transit between there and the East Cape hasn't been the best cycling ever. I spent most of the day on busy highways, without much to look at to distract me from the remarkably inconsiderate driving. I don't really understand why Kiwis, normally some of the most laid-back people you're likely to meet, suddenly become so impatient when they get behind a steering wheel. What harm is there in waiting until after the corner to pass a cyclist, or perhaps leaving more than 6 inches between you and a bike when you're doing 100kph?
Still, no worse than cycling in England I guess. At least there aren't quite so many cars on the road (a good thing considering how they drive here).
