330km

After just a few short days of tortuous climbs through magnificent, folded hills and along sublime coastline, I left the Coromandel. According to the few I met coming the other way, I threw myself in at the deep end a little when it comes to the slopes - apparently, this peninsular has some of the most difficult climbs I'm likely to come across in New Zealand. Good to know, as I managed most of them without too much complaint.
I had intended to spend a bit longer here, but the gravel roads and the enthusiasm of my own momentum cut short my time a little. Though firmly on the tourist map, there are still remote regions to be explored by those with more rugged transport willing to brave roads constructed with no concession to contours. When I come back next time, I'll have a car... ;)
