Not much to report as we have spent a week on the beach doing almost nothing. We've been on 2 different islands called Gili Trawangen and Gili Air which are accessed by a 90 minute hydrofoil ride from Bali which is extremely rough and rocky and a lot of the passengers had green faces by the end. Both the islands take an hour or 2 to walk around on the beach and have a small path where all the all the hotels and restaurants are located. There are horse-drawn carriages to get around. We were accosted by many drivers as soon as we got off the boat who were all at such great pains to tell us how desperately far our hotel was that it was obviously going to be a short walk, so we arrived as 'proper' backpackers.
The accomodation is all very simple, we have a little thatched bungalow with occasional electricity and a salty outdoor shower - which isn't heated but the water gets so hot in the pipes in the sun that its too hot to use! We take a torch out in the evenings on the way to dinner, where the choice is grilled fish and rice, so after a long period of overeating, we're enjoying purifying ourselves a bit.
We've also been amazed by our capacity to lounge around doing nothing and sleep for 12 hours a day. I think we must be tired from all our activity in borneo, and we need some rest because we are off tomorrow to climb mount Rinjani, which we can see across the sea from our sun loungers.
