Due to popular demand, Mr. and Mrs. Fitz have decided to continue blogging through their new adventures in Cape Town, South Africa. Although this blog may not be quite as adventurous, or as frequent as our last, we hope to keep in touch with everyone back home and feed you a few tidbits on our new life as students in Cape Town.

Our first week here has been chockfull of activities – some fun and some miserable.  Our first priority was to find an apartment.  While the process wasn't quite as easy and straightforward as we had hoped, we nonetheless found a GREAT place within a few days.  We are living in a very nice neighborhood called Tamboerskloof.  Tamboerskloof is a relatively safe and quiet part of town just a few blocks away from all of the trendy restaurants, bars and general happening part of Cape Town.  The best part is the kick a** view of Table Mountain that we get from our balcony.  It’s unbelievable.  The worst part is the hill + 5 flights of stairs we have to walk up to get to the balcony.  Ouch.  All in all, Colin and I are extremely happy with our place.  We love the space, the neighborhood, our landlord is great and it finally feels like we are getting to settle in to our new home.

Next on the list – everything  else.  In the past 4 days we have: moved into our new place, purchased a car, taught Maya how to drive her first ever manual transmission car….on the right side of the road (it was just as scary as it sounds), purchased and installed satellite TV into our apartment, purchased SIM cards and set up our new cell phones, arranged telephone and internet installation for our apartment, opened bank accounts, visited UCT campus and arranged all of our payments and pre course work, and completed various other odds and ends that always accompany big moves.  While these may sound like menial tasks, I assure you that NOTHING was as easy you would think – setting up a bank account was particularly miserable and frustrating.  But alas, we finally feel like we are in a very good place with all of our "tasks".  Not to mention, all the while we didn’t skip a beat in going out to restaurants and bars, meeting up with some new friends, going to the beach and generally exploring all that Cape Town has to offer.  We are exhausted, but have been having a blast.  Hopefully the next 2 weeks will slow down and allow us to enjoy the absolutely gorgeous weather and savor our final weeks as unemployed bums.

I have included some pictures of our apartment so that you can accurately picture us in our new home.  Next time I hope to have more pictures to give you a better flavor for the city of Cape Town.  It’s really such a gorgeous place, and I wish that I could share it with everyone.  We miss and love you all, and hope to start a Skyping frenzy once our internet is installed.

Ciao for now,

Mr. and Mrs. Fitz
