We're on the road again! But not before a long process of air-drying our cash, passports and paperwork.
Before leaving for Spitzkoppe, we discovered that the safe in the truck (AKA "Francis") got drenched when the truck was washed earlier. Everything inside it was dripping, soaking wet as we pulled out passports, air tickets and huge stacks of cash. Our departure was delayed so that everyone could place a sheet of toilet paper between each and EVERY page in their passport and also between each and EVERY note of money that they had. The process was not yet finished! They then had to let all of these items dry somewhat in the sun. Oh the life of a traveller! We'll be using crunchy-dried money and handing over our wrinkly wet passports to get stamped at the boarder!
Once we arrived in Spitzkoppe, we were shown around by a young African guide. He took us to a mountainside that had ancient paintings on it. The paintings had been made with blood, berries and Ostrich egg whites. The drawings we saw on the rocks were 2000-4000 years old. We also wandered over to see the 'Natural Arch' over in another mountain. This was very pretty and was basically a large curved hole in the mountain.
The rest of the day was used to relax and enjoy the gorgeous sunset where 2 of the girls and I climbed up part of the mountain to a natural swimming pool and made shadow figures against the red mountainside as the sun set in the west. We're on holiday! We can do silly things like that if we want to!!! The sun set across a vast grassy area with a backdrop of red mountains. All of the rock formations around us, including the one we had just climbed up were a beautiful bright red color, and received many ooooohs and ahhhhhs from us. Yet another one to save in our memories!
Tomorrow we head off again, hopefully we will see some wildlife on our way!
Hugs and Love,
Dana and Trevor
