Where I stayed
We had the beach to ourselves until about 2pm when the Spaniards finally woke up and meandered down. There was a group of 15 that arrived on Friday from Accra
The special thing about traveling is that everyone wants to know your story. In Africa it's quite easy to pick out the travelers! If you're laying on the beach and someone is close by, it's easy to strike up a conversation and a lot of the time you end up hanging out afterwards. We met Sergio and Luis on the beach and ended up having dinner with their friends that night, then enjoyed a bonfire party into the wee hours of the morning.
We spent three full days on the beach, taking walks with Pepo, drinking Star and meeting people from all over the World. It was all fun and games until I was challenged to a game of beach volleyball!
CANADA VS SPAIN
Canadian Melanie Popowich played Spain's Sergio Rodriguez (not sure of his actual last name but we'll use Rodriguez for the sake of the story) for the Gold Medal at the Axim Beach Resort World Championship match
It was a proud moment for all Canadians and the hairy competitor took it like a man and bought his rival a coconut to celebrate.
It was a marvelous weekend and we met a great new group of friends. Unfortunately Dani was sick and had to go home early so Maria and I invited our new friends Arianna from Germany and Helen (pronounced Ellen) from France to share a taxi with us and Pepo. They gladly accepted as the alternative was a tro tro which is totally unreliable and can take hours and hours. The five of us and Pepo climbed into the taxi and enjoyed a two and a half hour ride back to Cape Coast. We've made plans to do some traveling with them over the Easter break.
Today it's back to work. There's a huge shipment to the US scheduled for Friday so we're working our butts off packing everything up pretty. I'm never going to take for granted clothing wrapped neatly in a clear plastic bag again, who knew all of the hard work it takes to make it look so nice?
