A small village in a mountainous rural area of Guatemala. The landscape is quite beautiful with mountains all around and thick green forests. As our guide book points out it looks quite alpine.

The reason we came here was to go to a local landmark, Semuc Champey. A natural bridge with waterfalls and amazing clear water pools on the river Cahabon, in the Cahabon Gorge. You can see the water of the river cascading under the bridge and there are rock formations which create lots of different pools and smaller waterfalls, it is really beautiful. We went swimming in the pools which were beautifully refreshing on another hot day. We also climbed to the top of the gorge to the Mirador (look out) which gives and amazing aerial view of the pools. It was hard work as it is 500 steps! Our tip would be, if you go there, do the Mirador first, THEN go for a swim, not the other way around.

We will now head to Antigua with a night stop over, to break up the journey, in Coban.

The transport here in Guatemala is a bit "adventurous" so it is good to break them up a bit. Yes an old lady carrying a basket of chickens did get on one of our buses!!
