Since Elisabeth shared yesterday, we have made it to Maine. This morning we took a short drive out to a place called Ocean Point. With its rocky shoreline, clapboard homes, and historic lighthouse, it seemed like the picture-perfect Maine coastal scene. Afterwards, we stopped for a quick lunch of clam chowder (chowdah) and clam rolls at a roadside market with a beautiful view of a yacht shipyard. John and Ben wanted lobster (again) but we didn't have time since we had booked a kayak trip for the afternoon. This was Ben and Elisabeth's first time kayaking, but they did really well and we had a lot of fun. We went up the Sheepscot River - a saltwater river that is Maine's coldest and deepest. There were lots of seals playing in the water, and several got pretty close to us. One even followed Ben's boat for a while. They are so cute! We also saw a few osprey nests. It was a great outing. We finished up the day with a visit to Robinson's Wharf in Southport, where John and Ben got their "lobstah". (Elisabeth ate crab cakes and clam chowder, and I ate stuffed haddock.) Tomorrow we'll be going on the Clam Bake at Cabbage Island, and we'll get more yummy seafood!
