Today was our excursion day, so we headed out early for a trip to 27 Waterfalls, a series of waterfalls (27, in fact) ready made for jumping off and/or sliding down. After parking at the base camp and securing our guides and safety equipment (helmets and life vests), we began the 45(ish) minute hike up the mountain (via a large suspension bridge and narrow winding trails) to the first waterfall. Keeping a brisk pace during the hike left us hot, sticky, sweaty, and ready for the relief (and excitement!) that the crisp mountain water would bring. And it did not disappoint.
Oh.
So.
Refreshing.
The next hour and a half (roughly) passed quickly, as we leapt from the heights (up to 30' at the highest drop) or slid down the natural gulleys, hiked portions of the river bed, and floated lazily through canyons carved out by the water. And while the thrill of the jumps was incredible, even more incredible still was seeing the natural beauty that surrounded us and thinking of our great Creator.
After a brief lunch from a restaurant back at the base camp, we loaded the bus and took a half hour drive for a brief stop off at the beach. The beach itself was not exactly pristine (understatement), but the refreshing water combined with the sounds of waves crashing and a rather inspiring view of the nearby mountains more than made up for it.
Late afternoon began to turn into evening, so we once again boarded the bus to head back to Denny's house, making a brief stop at the supermarket to pick up some supplies for tonight's dinner and lunch tomorrow.
