As many of you know, there is no better way to end a vacation than with a few days on the beach. In that spirit, We headed down to Koh
Samui and Koh Tao to wrap up our vacation.
Koh Samui is a popular Thai vacation spot, a large island on the southeastern coast of Thailand. We flew in planning to escape this land of resorts and head straight to Koh Tao. Unfortunately, some poor travel planning (note to self: ensure your flight does not get you in after the last ferry has departed) resulted in us spending a night in Koh Samui. Before going, we had heard that Samui was less touristy and resorty than Phuket...makes me wonder what Phuket is like because Samui is packed with tourists and tons of resorts lining the beach. We did manage to get some reading (and drinking) in by the beach followed by dinner in a cute little area called Fisherman's Village.
We finally made it to Koh Tao the next day, which we found infinitely better than Samui. Koh Tao is typically known as a diver's destination, with inexpensive lodging and a pleasant lack of huge resorts. We stayed in a small Cabana resort on the far end of the main beach. Alejandro took advantage of the diving opportunities, while I sat by the beach and joined him for some snorkeling. All in all, a great experience and a lovely way to wrap up our vacation.
We returned to Samui for one last night before starting the trek home. Thanks to a recommendation from some expats we met on the ferry, we had a great dinner by the beach near our hotel. We then went and watched a very interesting show before calling it a night. We returned the next day to Bangkok for a quick stop and now it is time to head home.
All in all a great vacation. I would recommend all of the places we went to future travelers. That being said, I definitely thought Luang Prabang was the highlight...definitely put it on your list!
So that's it for this trip. Stayed tuned for the next blog from wherever Andrew and I decide to go next. Suggestions?
