Slept just a little longer today then relaxed in the room for awhile. Once we all were showered and ready we decided to take a walk on the promenade of Seaside. We wandered north along the not so travelled part and saw some adorable homes and B&B's with colourful gardens. As we came back we turned up the main street and decided to have lunch as it was already almost noon. We had all wanted to try the highly touted Norma’s so headed straight there anticipating a delicious lunch but it was really just so-so. After lunch we checked out some more shops and the carousel mall. We all ended up at the leather shop at some point, but mom and I didn’t see much and headed back to the hotel for some down time and to get ready for Cannon Beach while Dawn and Margaret shopped on, returning with bags full of their purchases later on. We soon headed out to Cannon Beach for the scenery, shops and beach. It took longer than planned as traffic was a mess but eventually we arrived at the most lovely town. It was clean and very pretty, with upscale shops, hanging baskets and little gardens everywhere. People were friendly, and it is understandable why tourists come here. There wasn’t a lot of shopping time as we hadn’t arrived until late afternoon and we wanted to enjoy the beach before the sun went down, but we did make it to a few galleries and gift shops.  It was a toss up whether to find a pub for a drink in town or head to the beach but in the end we took our coolers to the beach for the best of both worlds. We parked ourselves in the sand just beside the impressive Haystack Rock, which is the 3rd largest freestanding rock in the world.  Just looking around was pure pleasure, with beauty completely surrounding us. We tossed off the coolers pretty fast and went for walks around the beach, checking out the tidal pools near Haystack Rock and putting our toes in the water.  It was fun watching all the dogs playing with their owners on the beach, it is certainly a dog friendly area!

We had made a dinner reservation at the Wayfarer Restaurant, apparently the only restaurant on the oceanfront.  As it was Moms 75th birthday trip we specifically requested a table by the window and were pleased to get it. It was such a nice place to eat, the bread was delicious but not all the meals were great. Margaret and I shared the fettuccine and the Dungeness chicken, both were bland and dry. Dawn had the oysters and Mom had scampi, both were really excellent. Mom’s dinner was served on a Happy Birthday plate, very cool. After dinner Dawn drove back to Seaside where we relaxed in our room for the night.
