What a day! Destination accomplished! It's late (we changed time zones too), but the little girlz are asleep in bed and we've reached Mackinaw City, MI. We are now looking at the Mackinaw Bridge, which connects Michigan's Upper Peninsula to the mainland, all lit up.

What a drive from Bayfield, WI to here. We stayed on Highway 2 the entire time and traveled alongside the Southern shore of Lake Superior and over the Northern Shore of Lake Michigan. The drive, itself, is mostly two lanes with some four-lane intervals and passing lanes. The landscape reminds me so much of the drive from my hometown of Baudette, MN along the Rainy River to International Falls, but with many shoreline resorts and big old farmhouses and barns. The frost-kissed tips of the deciduous trees are just barely turning red, orange and yellow. It's simply gorgeous! We traversed the entire upper peninsula, West to East and back in and out of Wisconsin in between.

The surprise of the drive, and the biggest treat of the day, came right at the 'right time'. All three girls were starting to fuss, "Happy Feet" had started to skip and I was SO sick and tired of Miss Pop Queen Mara's Top 20, so we decided to pull off the road into a shoreline wayside rest along Lake Michigan that was hidden behind some trees.  To our pleasant surprise, there was a  beach there and it was public access with many short trails from the parking lot to the shoreline. We decided to take a walk, and before we knew it, we were stripping and dipping. We had the best time. I have NEVER been in such a sandy, clean and WARM lake. We had so much fun. We found an abandoned castle and man-made mini-channel that the girlz kept running circles in. They LOVED it....so did I. It definitely brought us to our destination later than we had hoped, but it was well worth it.

If this highway ends up being the new road between the Levasseur family back home and us, we have found a good thing. Maybe even mom and dad would meet us somewhere on the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Simply devine.

Tomorrow, sunrise over Lake Michigan and Mackinaw Island, destination: drive to Niagara Falls, Canada. Oh yeah! We talked to Canyon today. He took his first college test. Physics. He said it's definitely his toughest subject, but he felt good about the test. He's figured out Salt Lake City's TRAX system (lightrail transit) and he sounds fantastic.

Redbox DVDs - Hannah Montana, the movie and Planet Earth
Song of the Day - HoeDown by Mylie Cyrus
Quote of the Day - "MICK DONALD'S MOM, MICK DONALDs!!!" by Zoe & Dess, I swear they never knew what that place was until Fishbreath, SD.
