Esperance was voted Western Australia’s best town and
Australia’s second best town and it is easy to see why once you have viewed the
beaches. Under the Tank Jetty just in
the town centre there is a friendly sea lion called Sammy who was fast asleep. It was amazing how close you could get to
Sammy and all he did was roll his head for a better position to sleep in.
The Seafront Caravan park is such a great spot just across
the road from the beach and we have been given one of the best spots looking
out towards the sea with a playground just in front of us. The boys have already made some great little
mates.
31/1/12
5 minutes from Esperance was the Kepwari Wet Land walk
trail, this was a change of conditions as it has been very windy and it was a sheltered
inland bush walk. There were raised
timber boardwalks and loads of wildlife.
In the afternoon we headed to the Esperance Museum which was
quite interesting however was lacking in interactive displays for Daniel and
James.
1/2/12
Wow, these national parks just keep getting better and
better and Cape Le Grand National Park was no exception. Plenty of attractive bays with wide sandy
beaches set between rocky headlands. The
outstanding feature was the quality of the white sand. Lucky Bay was voted the whitest beach in
Western Australian and we also had a drive along the beach. The sand is so fine that when you walked on
it, it squeaked. Lucky Bay also had
Kangaroos lounging about on the beach.
We stopped at Hellfire Bay and had an Aussie BBQ which Daniel cooked and
then down to the bay for a swim and an exploration of the rocks.
On the way home we viewed the Stone Henges which is a
replica of Stone Henge in England.
2/2/12
We did the Great Ocean Drive which is about a 40 km round
trip along the ocean. The most popular
beach in WA is the Twilight Cove and it was a highlight due to its beautiful
clear water and white sandy beach.
Rotary Lookout was spectacular as it has 360 degree views of
Esperance. We drove past the Wind Farm
with Wind Turbines and the Pink Lake which is a salt lake and it actually was
pink.
3/2/12
Lay day today as it is sprinkling with rain. We went shopping and back out to Tanker Jetty
as Sammy the seal was swimming around the fish filleting area eating the
scraps. The playgrounds in Esperance are
fantastic and the boys got lost in a huge maze.
4/2/12
Another light misty rain day so we decided to see Alvin and
the Chipmunks Chipwrecked with Jake 7yrs, Cameron 5yrs & Finn 3yrs (family staying
at the van park with whom the boys have become really close with).
5/2/12
Today is James birthday and we received lots of calls from
home. After James opened his presents
and finished testing out his new DS game, we went for a drive to Wylie Bay and
then headed off to Maccas for a treat. In
the afternoon we got the bikes out and went for a bike ride along the Esplanade
and Jake decided to join us. With having
no oven we have had to celebrate with a bought birthday cake, balloons and
party poppers.
It will be sad to leave Esperance as the boys have made so
many friends here and the caravan park is really kid friendly.
