Where I stayed
hotel buena vista

I just love coming into Hotel Buena Vista.  It's like a breath of fresh, hot humid, sweaty (translate: not dried out wrinkled skin)  familiar air.  The kids are happy, not excited...it's an easy, peaceful, easy feelin'...  They did run, laughing past the peepee boy statue fountain...found our room and changed into swim suits.  The pool is about 90 degrees..not refreshing.  They went to the beach.  Madi and I took to the pool lounge chairs...never made it to the water.  It was 4:30 or 5:00..we lost an hour in the time change....didn't want to bother with shower and hair at this point in the day. They swam....Nate met with the "deer on the hood" of the Sea of Cortez...the Man-o-war... a wicked jelly fish...got him on the foot, but the poison traveled up his leg and settled into his thigh and hurt for a bloody good long while.  Seizing pain.

My only complaint ever about this place is the super hard beds.  We never really sleep soundly because of them.   ...but we did last night....   We bought and brought a king size memory foam mattress topper from costco and are sooo happy.  We caught the kids napping (on their on accord) on our bed today.  I didn't wake up a single time last night.
I love this place.  EVERY room is exactly the same...  Built by Togo Hazard back "in the day"...probably the 1960s or so.  Hazard.  A familiar name if you grew up in San Diego. It is the Hazard Construction gravel and sand pits that run along Friars Road on the way from 163 to Ikea.  As a kid we remember the stories of kids climbing on the huge sand hills and being buried....the stuff of legends.  Anyway, his granddaughter and fresh new husband are here on vacation.  The last remnant of a local legend.  Everyone who comes to this sweet-hunk-o-baby-cake on the shore feels a little like it's theirs.  We certainly feel like it's our little hunk-o-secret-sweet-loveliness that no one else...at least from our world knows about.  It's not plush.  It's super relaxing though.  The kids are happy and safe.  Their hair...after day one...bright green.  Yup...that water is safe!

So that was day one.
