I want to tell you about my experience in Ifrane. Yesterday we went to a barren place behind our hotel to look for Geodes. Geodes are a round black/ brown rock about the size of my fist. If you break them open they have very intricate, crystallized designs inside them. Unfortunately, we found nothing. But let me tell you about what we did find; a soccer game! We met some kids who were 7 and 15. They asked my Dad if we wanted to play and it was great fun to play with kids from another country. I scored 11 goals and Anna scored about 7 or 8. I played on a team with two Moraccan kids. Even though I could not understand French or Arabic, I could still understand them. I knew when to pass and then passed to them.  After the game, their family asked us to come over to their car. They were very nice and wanted to know where we were from. Then...... they gave us candy bars, nuts, and other goodies!!!!
Another story I would like to share with you is about the Barbary Apes.  The Barbary Apes are not in many other places than Morocco and are an endangered species.  Our guide took us to a place where there is a relatively tame group of these apes. They got so close to us that they would take bread out of your hand. The biggest ape in the group was called Hammou and was the chief of the group. Our guide has known him at least ten years and was sure that Hammou "knew him," too.

Reid, What an experience. Getting around the language barrier and truly sharing with others in a game is a precious experience. It reminds me of my son John playing stickball in a square with some kids in Panama., a couple of years ago. One question: What language did the Apes speak?

sounds like you are having lots of fun in Ifrane. I guess soccer players speak a universal language and all love to score goals!!
