After the long journey from York to Carlisle we were very much relieved to arrive at our B&B. We unpacked our suitcases from the car and lugged them up the four sets of stairs which Mum said would keep us fit while we stayed in Carlisle. The first day in Dad's homeland was spent scouting around and getting our bearings. Mum and Dad, of course, didnt have a clue where they were going or what they were doing but we still managed to find a nice park to sit in and enjoy the weather. We walked through Bitts Park and i was astounded at the amount of green and colourful flowers. Now i know everyone says this when they come from somewhere like England but there really is nothing like this in Australia, even if you went to the wettest part in Oz it would look like desert foliage. They even had little gardens in front of the park with the words Bitts Park spelled out in perfectly trimmed colourful flowers, i thought that was showing off a bit but thats just me.

The next day was spent tracking down relatives. Dad got in contact with Linda Dawes who is his second cousin and we met her at her B&B just before lunch. Linda was really funny, she reminded me greatly of Nanna Win, just by her personality and humor. It was hilarious when we walked through the door of the B&B and into the kitchen and Dad walked forwards towards Linda who was sitting by the table. At this time Linda didnt know we were coming to visit her. Dad walked forwards with his arms raised expectantly and Linda mimicked the gesture with no recognition at all. As Dad got closer her face lit up with shock and she yelled " SHAUN" and went to embrace Dad. They then sat down and remeniced about the last time Dad rocked up on the doorstep with chicken pox.

After we had sat down with Linda and had a good chinwag, we set of to explore Carlisle Castle. it was nothing like Windsor castle which is a castle made for living in, it was a bleak military castle that was purely designed to withstand invasion.

After the castle we tracked down Marjorie Dawes who welcomed us in to her B&B. We sat down and talked and Dad had a look around where he had stayed 25 odd years ago. Later on we went to Linda's place for dinner with Marjorie. Linda made me and Riley help out in the B&B, Riley had to put new towels in a room and then Linda sent us to help and old man turn on the TV in his room. This was pretty funny because the man had forgotten to switch on the quite large, in your face, plain as anything power switch on the side of the TV. After that Riley and i were allowed to go into Linda's private quarters and watch her amazingly, jaw-droppingly, gobsmackingly large TV.....with FOXTELL!!!!!!!!!!!!! We watched about 3 movies before we had to leave and go home, and beleive me there were complaints. By the time we got home it was 12 at night and all fell asleep as soon as we walked through the door.
