Where I stayed
Day trip from London
Finally we are getting into the UK timezone. Slept right through the night and woke up at 8:30am instead of 5 or 6.
We spent a wonderful day with the Garner Family in Hemel Hempstead, which was an easy 20 min train trip from Euston Station.
Jean and Peter welcomed us to their lovely home, where we had a champayne toast in the sunshine of their stunning back garden. The photos show the river that is at the bottom of the garden.
After a lovely roast dinner and damson pie for pudding, we walked along the canal to the Three Horseshoes pub, which has been there since 1535. You can see a photo of us all on the bridge over the canal including: Jean and Peter, John, Ellie, Jilll and Rebecca and us (Leslie is the photographer).
The kids helped open the locks for the canal boats that were travelling through - this is a very peaceful slow way to travel around the UK - we managed to keep up with them at walking pace.
I have more photos that I would like to post - of the canal locks and the Three Horseshoes, but I am limited to picking 5.
What a lovely place Hemel Hempstead is and it was so nice to get out of the hustle and bustle of London and spend a relaxed day with the Family. It was very special for us to learn more about the history and connections between the Wilson/Garner family in the UK and the Wilson/Ho family in Australia.
Thank you Jean, Peter and family for making us feel so welcome!
