Where I stayed

After leaving Como we decided that we will stay in Milan for a night before leaving italy and head into France. We had already basically done one day in Milan while we were looking for books before Como so we figured one night should be plenty. We had been told that Milan wasn't necessary to do because it is just a city but after weeks in strictly tourist areas we were excited about the prospects of having some city life (and maybe having some cuisine other than Italian).

We had booked the Enterprise hotel (even though it was a tram ride to the main area) because it was resonable and very modern. We also were excited because we got a package rate from the hotel that included the hop on/hop off bus tour. We know it is corny but we love the ones in NYC and London so we were excited to finally do one. We check in and get ready for our bus tour. We take the bus to a main tourist area to start the tour. We get on the bus and it is roasting hot because they put a plexigrass roof on the top. Also we have these awful head phones and a pre-reocorded tour guide. This kills it because the beauty of the New York one is the colorful tour guides. Then the bus starts moving and it is the worst tour you could possibly imagine. It was one hour long and not only did one thing not interest us enough to hop off, we did not even take one photo.

The bus finally stopped in front of the Doumo and that is a sight!  It is a beautiful piazza with a Gothic Cathedral, a few statues and the Galleria - which is a high end shopping plaza that is done on the style of the city. We hit up the galleria for a rediculously expensive lunch and then head into the cathedral. We are awestruck. It is an amazing cathedral with beautiful stained glass. After touring the inside we decide to hike up to the roof to get photos of the outside of the building and the sqaure below. (I can't write anything that will give the cathedral justice so just take a look at the 100+ photos we have of it.

After the Cathedral we walk down some of the shopping streets. They have every store you could think of and some you haven't heard of - well I am sure Jen has. We go in a few (including Jen's favorite - Balinciaga) and then head back to the hotel satisfied we had seen what we came to see. We get excited for dinner because the city has any option you can think - such a nice change after all of the other places we have been. Don't get me wrong I love Italian food and we have had some awesome meals but after 30 days in Italy a little variety is more than welcomed. We go in to shower and change (while I dream of sushi and Jen dreams of anything not pasta/pizza related). The ironic thing is by the time we get ready we realize how exhausted we are and decide to stay in and get room service. At least they had different cuisine.

We rest up and get ready for our 6 hour drive to our next stop - Nice...
