Yet another almost missed flight but we scam our way onto the first Easy Jet bus out to the Tarmac. We touchdown in Venice and head for the ferry to our hotel. Thank god for trip advisor because we are booking the hotels later and later and we are getting more and more budget conscience (never mind the fact that we have no idea where the hell to stay). We find an old school hotel a 5 minute walk from Piazza San Marco (St, Mark's Square). We take the Vaperetto (ferry type boats) from the airport to San Zacharia/San Marco. We walk to the hotel lugging our heavy ass back packs and can't wait to check in. Place is out of the way on a small canal but a 3 minute walk to St. Mark's so we are happy. Venice is crazy it is like nothing I have ever seen before (Jen has been here 2 times before). Hotel looks very nice from the inside and we have high hopes for another accommodation score. Check in and the room stinks - not a bad room but smells. We have heard that this is just a Venice thing and sure enough we ask the guy to check it out and there is apparently "no odor" - must be immune to canal stench. Other than that the place is considered a Venetian Palace so it is pretty nice. We drop our stuff of and head over to San Marco. St Mark's square is very nice the Basilica is ridiculous not quite on par with St. Peter's but close. We spend the evening just walking around St. Mark's area grab a dinner of guess what - more Italian food and hit the sheets. Get up early and take a private boat to Murano to witness glass blowing demonstrations and walk around the town. Sneak on a Vaperetto without paying and head back to St. Marks. We go for a big walk to the railway station (called the church walk) snapping picks along the way to book our tickets for Switzerland. There are some great Chiesa's along the way but after a while these beautiful small churches all start to look the same. So we bag the walk head over the Rialto bridge across the grand canal and hit the railway station. I swear we bought our tickets from Fredo Corleone guy looked just liked him and had the same personalty...Head back for dinner at restaurant close to our place and somehow I order gnocchi with literally over 1lb of cheese melted over it but I had already sent back my ice cold red wine (I can't stand that) so just grin an bear it. Okay so we have another night in Venice and it is too much. If you head to Venice 2 nights is plenty. There is just not a ton to do there. It is amazing and very cool but a couple days is plenty. So we just chill the next night have some wine, walk around and get ready to head to the train station for Switzerland. We board the train early and it is fairly empty. Met a nice couple from Australia also on there honeymoon and we sit across from them and chat. So nice having four seats to ourselves - then we have to change trains in Milano and it is...(see Switzerland)
