mmm just got back from haruno's, our favourite pizza place in rovaniemi. it is really expensive to eat out here (except for the super cheap cafeteria lunches at school), and not many options anyway (two Chinese restaurants but no sushi or Indian). but at about $7 Canadian for a big thin crust pizza with 4 toppings (blue cheese and capers are surpisingly yummy) pizza is a nice treat. of course, if you are hungry late at night, finns are all about the autogrilli's, basically little greasy fast food joints, which stay open until 4 or 5am most nights to catch the post-bar croud (bars close at 4am here). some are drive in style, some you can stand inside, but none have tables inside, only picnic tables outside. Which can be pretty cold in -20something finnish winter nights, but people, including me, still sit at them, fingers going numb as you munch your veggie burger or makkara (finnish sausage) and fries.

last weekend erika and i had a flatwarming party at our place, the theme was creating a rainbow, everyone was supposed to come dressed all in one colour. i was green ;). you may notice the irony that at some point during the night i decided to test the black and white feature on my camera and then never switched it off...

one of the highlights of the night was when we started talking about line dancing. for those who grew up in alberta, cadillac ranch is just something you know how do... like brushing your teeth or making KD. i could do that dance in my sleep. but until you move away, you do not realize how ABSOLUTELY BIZARRE AND RIDICULOUS THIS IS to just about everyone else in the world!! none of the non-canadians could even believe that everyone in my province knew how to do this funny looking dance, and none of the other canadians knew it. we tried to download the song but couldn't find it, so we just found the lyrics and erika and i sang while i danced... hilarious, everyone was killing themselves laughing. yay albertan pride! haha, this from the girl who has never even tried on a pair of cowboy boots... weird, what becomes part of your identity without you even noticing...
