although i can still understand basically nothing (but i can kind of count to 100 if i really try!) i felt a wave of happiness when i stepped on the finnair plane and heard my first finnish for 4 months. somehow in the twisted way that life works, it felt like home.
in many ways, life moves at a slower, calmer, more peaceful pace in rovaniemi than in other places i have lived. i notice that here there seems to be more time for things like long runs in the woods, doing dishes, meeting friends for coffee. maybe because there is a lot less else going on (e.g. last weekend, one of the most exciting thing that happened to my flatmate erika and was accidentally buzzing up a dude spamming us with junk mail flyers of various home sauna ovens)
speaking of sauna, oh sauna, how i love it! seriously, finnish sauna is the shit. i have already been to sauna in our building twice, i am going to try to go as much as possible in the next couple of months! before returning to the land of "please do not throw water on the rocks" ;P
our flat is really fabulous, we are 2 minutes from the city centre, and have a view of the river (a little), lots of space, really bright and all newly renovated. now if we could just get the internet to work... (yes, phone/internet companies suck uniformly worldwide, but SONERA IS THE WORST!!)
today i went on a 10k hike organized by the SU, about 20km north of here, such beautiful fall colours, especially the reds.
now, for this thesis thing...
