Where I stayed
Hello, we're back from the mountains of Chiang Mai and our 2 day trek!
The first day was pretty uneventful but still very enjoyable, we walked through 'jungle' which turned out to be not much more than sparse bamboo and the bat cave we went to only had a single bat in it because it was the wrong season (they didnt tell us that when we booked it!). the walking was fun but it got tiring pretty quickly in the heat. it got alot more interesting when we arrived at the long neck tribe village where we were staying the night. it was pretty weird at first because we arrived at their village and then were just left to ourselves and we didnt really know what to do. We got chatting to our guide who ws really friendly and fun. we spent the evening sat around a camp fire (it was still really hot anyway) and the Long neck tribe did a little dance for us. it was all quite strange but good fun.
the next day was a lot more packed. we had to walk out of the village until we gt to the road and then we were picked up and taken to an elephant camp were we got to ride an elephant through some more 'jungle' and through a river. wev got some amazing pics that il defo try to get on here soon. we then took a bamboo raft down the river which was nice and tranquil and then later we got to do some white water rafting. again, it was the wrong season so there wasnt alot of water but it was still great fun. the guide we had for that bit was competely crazy so he kept us entertained.
wev now booked our bus for tomorrow down to the city of Ayatyya(?) where there are loads of old ruins and then its back to Bangkok.

Only one bat! lol
Seems like you really didn't pick the right time to go to Thailand!
Great to hear from you again though and it all sound exciting even though the jungle and bat numbers were rather disappointing.
Tourists are being advised to avoid Thailand completely if possible so be very careful in Bangkok. Maybe Claire's uncle can advise you again.
Good luck.

I went to the ruins! You'll love them! Just like in the photos you always see of the old Thai ruins. there are loads of big buddas and on one of them you stick coins to his feet for luck! make sure you do it. Then you can go and spin those big prayers wheels and add oil to the fire lamps and hit a gong! Don't forget to take loads of arty photos! xxxx
PS did you see the elephants painting and playing football? xxx
