When considering what route to take to get to Orem from Colorado Springs I thought I might enjoy driving over the highest pass in the United States, Independence Pass, again, but finally opted to go home via highway 50. Alene told me about the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and this sealed my decision.

The drive took me past Royal Gorge, so I decided to stop in there while in the neighborhood. I couldn't help but compare the bridge over Royal Gorge to the Mile High Swinging Bridge at Grandfather Mountain - and laugh.

The drive through the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is a beautiful drive, but not one you'd want to take if you're in a hurry. I stopped at a couple overlooks and took several pictures.

I called Mom as I was approaching Delta, CO (her hometown) and she was surprised that I'd taken that route home. She told me she had fixed dinner for me expecting me there earlier, so I had to keep moving, without any stops, in order to get to her home while the dinner was still edible.
