As it turns out I cannot fly to Shanghai inexpensively, so I am planning to fly to Macau or Shenzhen (both are immediately next to Hong Kong) and from there I can make my way up to Shanghai which is where my departing flight leaves from. Its been a few years since I was in mainland China. I would have been in China sooner this year, but the problem with the Chinese consulate issuing visas due the whole Tibet thing. Anyhow...

Shenzhen is extremely interesting. Since Hong Kong has limited space, the Chinese government intentionally developed Shenzhen, which is on the mainland to be a counterpart to Hong Kong. Most of the city is less than 15 years old, it is amazing to see a city of all new skyscrapers, subway, etc in mainland China. Shenzhen is one of the costliest cities in China, next to Shanhai and Beijing. Shenzhen weather sucks, just like Hong Kong- warm but no sun, just clouds or smog.

Shenzhen was a great time, and instead of going to Shanghai for just a few days, I finish out my time there.
