We were told that Lima was a fairly dull place to visit and that most people just pass right through it to the more interesting Peruvian cities, so we had fairly low expectations before arriving.

We decided to stay in central Lima instead of Miraflores where all the other backpackers stay and ended up with a pretty awesome view of San Martin Plaza from our room. In San Martin Plaza there is a massive statue with a sculpture of a lady who was originally commissioned to have a crown of flames on her head. Unfortunately for her the word for flames in Spanish is Llama and no one pointed out the double meaning to the sculptor, so she ended up with a llama on her head. Liam and I found it pretty funny and it probably looks less chavvy than flames anyway!!

We wandered about the old town, took in the colonial architecture and also visited a church with catacombs. For those that don't know what a catacomb is, it is basically a big, spooky underground area with a whole bunch of human bones. It's pretty creepy.

Also pretty creepy was the guy who cut Liam's hair. Quite why he decided to risk his first hair cut with a guy who looked like a James Bond villain (with metal teeth and everything) We will never know. Obviously in Peru "just a trim" translates as "can you shave most of my hair off and give me a slick side parting so i look like Im from the 1920s please". Still for £2.50 you cant go wrong....

We also visited a park with loads of fountains. Unfortunately we arrived 3 hours early for a show that we didn't know was happening and weren't sure if we could kill 3 hours in the park (because obviously we weren't going to pay to come in to the same park twice). Surprisingly we managed to pass the time pretty easily as the fountains were spectacular. They should rename this park magical water fountain land.

Lima probably gets a thumbs even, but Liam as ever gets a thumbs up (and so does magical water fountain land).
