Medellin by comparison to Bogota is beautiful (in parts), it has its shady areas which we stumbled into a little by mistake (only once) but it also has some great places to see.

We again took a cable car up to the top of a mountain, expecting to only just get a good view of the city but we were surprised when at the top of the cable car there was a big nature park with a food market and horses and walks etc. it was beautiful. Unfortunately we timed this trip rather badly and only arrived at the park at 3pm and the last cable car back was at 5.30 so we didn't make the most of this trip, but was still definitely worth the ride.

We also visited a Botero sculpture park where we took pictures of lots of fat people statues and avoided lots of crackheads, and walked around the botanical gardens where steph made friends with an iguana. We visited the "park of no shoes" where locals are encouraged to walk bare foot in water and on different textures (e.g. sand), and we finally wandered up a massive hill to a park with another good view of the city and ate ice creams.

We also took a day trip to a colourful town called Guatape where all the houses are painted different bright colours and have pictures painted on the front of them to discourage children from kicking balls against them. It also has a huge rock (monolith) that you can climb to see a view of lots of winding reservoirs. The sign at the bottom said it was the best view in the world therefore we didn't let the 740 steps to the top put us off. The view from the top really was quite amazing but I'm not sure that the pictures really do it justice.

Overall Medellin gets a thumbs up.
