Custer State Park and Devil's Tower

More catch-up of Sept 8-9: We camped 2 nights at Custer SP, a huge park with activities for everyone. We spent Sat am riding Daisy and Cloudy through the French Creek Natural Area with Carleen from the U.P. as our guide. We avoided bison in the path and spotted kingfishers and a rough-legged hawk. It was too gusty and cold to hike to Harney Peak (7400'), so we hiked around the Sylvan Lake Area instead, rough terrain and great views of rock formations. Lunch and breakfast at the Bluebell Lodge were excellent, with courteous and prompt service. I recommend the Buffalo Stew in a sourdough breadbowl. Sunday morning we drove the wildlife loop -- pronghorns, turkeys, whitetail deer, and plenty of bison. Stopped at Devil's Tower on our way to Sheridan WY--much better than Mt Rushmore, nice walk, views, and geologically interesting.
